OSTEOLOGI

Osteology (from the Greek. Osteon "bone" and logos "word") is the study of the vertebrate skeleton.
Osteology word derived from Greek. It consists of the word osteon - bone, and logos, which loosely translated gives the study of bones. In this context, the study of all vertebrate skeletons of people and other animals. It should also be noted that other parts of the body as teeth, nails, horns and more studied in the subject.
The subject is divided into the two sub-areas animalosteologi and humanosteologi, where the first group studying animal bones and the other human bones. In other countries shared historical osteology in several disciplines, including (English terms), physical anthropology, and zooarcheaology archaeozoology.

Osteology in archeology
Osteology is today a topic which is related to archeology and can be studied at three sites in Sweden. First, in Lund, where it is called historical osteology, and in Stockholm where it is called osteoarchaeologist and Gotland where it is called osteology. Although today's osteologists often found in museums or archaeological sites, they can also provide assistance in police affairs or for identifying cells from contemporary mass graves. In Sweden, it can achieve master's degree in the subject of three colleges: University of Lund, Stockholm University and University of Gotland. Osteological Association was founded in 1978 and has the objective to promote interest in human and animalosteologi, mainly with a historical orientation. The association publishes the journal Benbitenmed 2 issues per year. Osteology at Stockholm University The osteological subject at the University of Stockholm called osteoarchaeologist. Formerly known as the arkeoosteologi, but when it became part confusion between archaeological research laboratory (AFL) and Arkeoosteologiska Research Laboratory (AOFL), they changed the name in 2004 to Osteoarkeologiska research laboratory (OFL). OFL was also the old abbreviation for the Osteological Research Laboratory as Nils Gustav Gejvall based at Stockholm University.
The laboratory was from its creation in the 60's located in one of the mews Ulriksdal but has now moved to the Wallenberg Laboratory at Frescati, Stockholm University. Osteology at Lund University
The archaeological osteologin in Lund named historical osteology. The subject has been in Lund since the early 1990s and built up by Elisabeth Iregren. Lund Department was also the first in Sweden to pursue postgraduate studies in the subject. Osteology at the University of Gotland
At the University of Gotland substance called osteology. The subject was built up by Professor Ebba During the late 1900s. At first only as a summer course, but from autumn 1999 are given four semesters with osteology, under the name Arkeoosteologi. The subject's name changed in 2004 to osteology. From 2008 you can take the master's degree in the subject osteology at the University of Gotland.
